DIY How To Tie-Dye / Splatter Paint Boots

What you'll need:

  • Canvas shoes. I'm using 80%20 Jackie canvas boots (50% off at Revolve!)
  • Rubber bands or twine.
  • Acrylic paint.
  • Fabric paint medium.
  • A spray bottle.
  • Paper towel or rag.
  • Gloves are optional but recommended.
  • Start by wrapping rubber bands or twine around your shoes like you would if you were going to tie dye them. But we're not going to tie dye these.
Dying a shoe is very complicated, so we're going to use paint. :)

Place them in a tub or sink, or on a tarp. This will get messy. Pour 2 parts medium and 1 part paint into your spray bottle. Add just a little bit of water. Stir and shake--mix it up. Then spray the mixture all over your shoes. Try not to spray it too thickly--use a paper towel or rag to dab those places where the paint is too thick.
Also, do not coat them thoroughly, leave some spots unpainted.
If you used a tub or sink--clean up quickly before the paint dries.

Let the shoes dry overnight, and then heat set the paint with a blow dryer.
    And ta!

    Sick ass boots, right?
They were super cute before, but I think they're even better now.
At first I was scared I might ruin them by trying this but I absolutely love them!
The effect is kind of spooky and artistic, like ghosts or an abstract vegan snakeskin.
Here they are featured in an outfit:

I'm wearing this tonight to go out and meet up with some friends.

Romper cut into a dress - I simply cut off the hem and crotch seam of this romper so it's a dress now. I like it better.
