  1. By the way, that’s a baby pic of me with my “Binky”! I was like Linus with that blanket. :D

  2. Guess what? I’m still like Linus with mine and my kid is the same way. Like mother like son. Ah ha. What do you do for a living lady? And when was your passion for fashion born? Forgive me if I’ve overlooked it if you’ve already shared that bit o’ info!

  3. How very cute :)

  4. Such a pretty kid!! I love Q & As!! Who is your favorite designer and why? xoxoxxoxo

  5. Kristin – I’m not really making a living yet. I’m self-employed and hoping to make Indie Style Media profitable. Wish me luck! I guess you could say my passion for fashion began when I was in 5th or 6th grade and started caring about what I wore beyond turning my nose up at dresses (I was a major tomboy). But really I’d say it started in 8th grade and high school, when I took a bit of teasing for dressing differently, but that didn’t dissuade me.

    Rachael – Thank you!

Shin – Thanks! Favorite designer… that’s a tough one for me. I like a lot of them for different reasons but don’t know that I have one favorite. I guess you could say Ce Ce Chin is my favorite since 80%20 shoes are my favorite shoes. I love them because I think they look like they should cost way more than they do and are so unique.

  6. Aww so cute!

Okay, what is your most favourite item in your closet and why?

  7. Sher – It’s so hard for me to pick favorites! But assuming you mean in terms of garments and not shoes, this heather gray jersey dress comes to mind: http://anniespandex.com/clothes/outfits/people-should-be-dancing/ because it’s like tofu, haha.. It can be for day or night and goes with absolutely everything. It’s extremely comfortable (jersey dresses are my absolute favorite for this reason) and looks good even when wrinkled. It makes a great base to show off funky tights and shoes. Annnnd gray is my favorite color. I love mixing gray with bright colors. I probably should pick the nicest thing in my closet but honestly I have to hold myself back from wearing that dress all the time. :)

  8. Shin – I should add that there are a few other designers whom I have a lot of respect for: Betsey Johnson, Vivienne Westwood, and Diane von Furstenberg. I love the quirky punky girl power aesthetics of the first two and find Diane to be inspirational. I tend to gravitate toward female designers who are doing their own thing.

  9. What did you have for breakfast this week?

  10. Rowena – This week? I don’t really remember exactly for the past seven days but it’s usually an oat-based cereal and soy milk. That’s what I had this morning, and what I often have when I do have breakfast. I also like to have eggs and salsa in a tortilla.

  11. OK so you know I want to know about your love life after hearing you have an ex husband? If you feel comfortable answering I’d love to know what the story is behind the marriage and break up.

Seeing how you said you’re not making a living of blogging yet how are your bills paid?

Have you ever worked as an employee and if so what did you do?

And how long have you been blogging?

    How old are you?

What does a typical day in the life of Annie look like?

Maybe I should interview you with all of these questions. What do you think?

  12. Haha, I love these! Ok, right, ermm… where’s your favourite place in the whole world?

  13. You’re very cute on this photo and you still have the same eyes : and I see you like fashion since you were a child, whith your nice blanket around you…

Q : why do you pose in your kitchen ? Have you consider posing in other rooms ? Bathroom ? Bedroom ? Garden (well you have)…

  14. Ms Constantine – I met my ex (you may remember I referred to him as “Mister”) through a mutual friend in 2004 and married him in 2006. I was naive and it seemed like the thing to do. I thought everything was great (I see now that it wasn’t), but the illusion quickly dissolved. I can’t tell you exactly what he did to ruin the marriage because that wouldn’t be fair, but I’ll just say that I had very good reasons to leave. He made a series of bad choices throughout the marriage that pushed me away, and after a final straw I separated from him last December, and the divorce was finalized sometime during Spring. We’re on good terms now and share “custody” of Wesley, our dachshund.
I am in a much, much happier relationship now and feel relieved and content in that part of my life.

Seeing how you said you’re not making a living of blogging yet how are your bills paid? – My parents are temporarily helping keep me afloat for the time being.

Have you ever worked as an employee and if so what did you do? – Yes, I worked in fast food as a teenager like most teenagers, then a movie theatre and museum during college. I had a short run as a substitute teacher in a free semester before grad school and most recently did data entry. During grad school I was a mental health counselor, but it was practicum and internship–I wasn’t paid.

And how long have you been blogging? – I started this blog in June of last year.

How old are you? – 29.

What does a typical day in the life of Annie look like? – A typical day is hard to say. Some days I wake up and work or do blog-related stuff all day (and night), stopping for short breaks to eat and catch The Office. Other times I may work for a bit and then go out to a dive bar, rock show, or spend time at home with BB. I have an occasional day where I just veg and read, but it’s rare. I go to bed around 6am and get up about 2 or 3. I often have trouble falling asleep. I’ve been naturally nocturnal and an insomniac like this all my life. Luckily, BB keeps similar hours so that’s a nice match.

Maybe I should interview you with all of these questions. What do you think? – If you want, I’d be honored! Though the personal stuff is probably better left here. :)

MJ – My favorite place in the whole world? Hmm.. Well, my favorite city is Nashville–I absolutely love it here. The music scene (not talking about country music) is great and it just feels like home. The most beautiful place I’ve ever been is northern New Mexico.

La Flore – Thank you! I always pose in the kitchen for my outfit shots because it has the best light and a blank enough wall. It was the same case in my old place (with the orange wall), but I sometimes posed in my backyard there. In the new place, I will likely pose in my office and sometimes in the backyard. I haven’t posed outside here because I have downstairs neighbors and am shy. :)

  15. Questions !!

What do you do on a bad hair day ? And How many pairs of shoes do you own ? Ohhh last one, favorite local shopping places?

  16. Hi Valencia Lia! :)

    Answers:

What do you do on a bad hair day? – A braid and beret.

And How many pairs of shoes do you own? – About 25.

Ohhh last one, favorite local shopping places? – I guess my favorite local shopping places would be Music City Thrift, Southern Thrift, and a vintage shop called Flashback.

  17. i see you went to grad school for something that im assuming was unrelated to what you’re doing now…what are your degrees in, and what brought you to change your career path and give self-employment a try? im very interested in this as i have a degree in political science, a field which i deemed unfit for me before i even got the degree…now i’m exploring my options.

lastly, how did you wind up in tennessee? (im from east tennessee myself…)

  18. Grace – I’m at BB’s house–there’s no internet here yet. I’m on my mobile right now. I’ll answer your questions tomorrow night when I’ll be back at my place. Xx

  19. Grace – I have a master’s and specialist’s degree in counseling psychology. I’m Annie Spandex, M.S., Ed.S. Lol… A specialist’s is a post-master’s degree–it’s like the coursework of a PhD but without the dissertation and a shorter internship. Like you, I began to realize I didn’t want to do counseling anymore before I was finished with my 2nd degree. On the bright side, counseling is basically life skills–communication, interpersonal relationships, personal adjustment type stuff. So, it wasn’t all for nothing. But I’m not happy about my student loan debt. :/ I tried applying my degrees and experience to other fields, specifically HR and matchmaking (how fun would that be?!), but had no luck. This isn’t the best economy to be entering the job market, especially trying to enter a field that’s related but not the exact thing you went to school for. Hopefully you’ll have better luck than I had. I think what’s necessary for going into self-employment is either another job, support from a spouse or some benefactor, a business loan, or savings. There’s got to be some form of safety net and something to be there while you’re growing the business. Of course, my divorce threw a wrench in the gears (but it was worth it). Now if I’m not going to make it through the month I’m lucky that I can go to my parents and ask for help. Although sometimes I push myself, wanting to be independent–I spent a couple weeks of September living on rice.

Where are from in east TN? I’ve been camping near Newport and Colby several times when I was younger. I’m from Kentucky and grew up only an hour from Nashville, so it’s almost like I’m from here. It definitely feels like home. :)

  20. I want to know what sparked your interest in spandex :-)

  21. districofchic – Lol, I wouldn’t say I have an interest in spandex, it’s really just a random moniker. I’m not sure how it came to me, but it was initially just a sort of joke started over MySpace, like my rockstar persona or something. I do love 70′s glamrock and wearing leggings, so it just fits. And I think the assonance sounds nice. :)

  22. i’m from knoxville!

small world – i used to go camping in newport too, back in high school. haven’t been back there since my 18th birthday campout bash…six years ago! those were the days!

  23. Yeahhh for answering my questions. I tend to go for a braid when I have bad hair days too.

And if I ever had a chance,I wanna go shopping with you too!

  24. OK, I know I showed up to this party late, but in case you’re still checking in from time to time…

Did you know of anyone posting outfit pictures on the internet when you started doing it? If so, who was(were) that(those) blogger(s)?

Also, how did you get started blogging?

  25. grace – It IS a small world :)

    Valencia Lia – Totally! xx

EmilyKennedy – Yes, I’ll be checking back here whenever anyone has a question–whenever forever. ;)

I actually didn’t really know about fashion blogs until I started my own. I did follow some livejournals of girls who posted pics of their outfits, and I still follow them.
It was summer and I had recently finished grad school and couldn’t find a good job, so I just really needed something to do, some sort of creative outlet, some way to feel productive and possibly make a little money. I at first tried to write about my experiences with growing up in a haunted house (if you can believe that!), but that’s limited material and I felt too exposed so I quickly shut it down, decided to start a blog about what interests me. I did a lot of research about what blogging platform to use and how to do it, and just kind of went for it. I’m really very happy that I did. It’s changed my life.
By the way, if you ever come to Nashville, you’ve gotta let me know!

  26. Annie I loved your openness here. I think this is why you’re so cool and easily someone many girls can relate to and look up to. Keep up the good work.

  27. Aja – That is so kind and encouraging. Thank you so much. It really means a lot to me. <3

  28. Oh hey, just thought maybe I should update for anyone reading this in the archives. I now have a part-time job to supplement my self-employed income. It’s important for me to be independent, and getting help from my folks has always been a temporary measure.

What do you think?
