I Love My Antique Heirloom Locket

The super-talented artist, Laura S. Taylor, asked to see a close-up of the antique locket I wore in the previous post, so here it is!

It is very old, from the Victorian era. Sometimes I wear it with the monograms facing out, and sometimes I show the blank side. It's beautiful either way. I really love it. The fact that it's an heirloom makes it extra special. Didn't she have a cool name?

If you weren't lucky enough to inherit a heirloom locket, look for them on eBay! :)

  1. that is beautiful! I love that it’s been in your family, and yes, her name was awesome!

I have one that is similar, but I bought it, rather than inheriting it. I don’t know when mine is from either. it’s awesome that yours is from the Victorian era.

how big is it? I think it’s bigger than mine. I should do a locket and heirloom post…I think I’ll do that now.

  2. Haha we have matching names..
and that is a kick ass name, “Lulu Belle”!

  3. that’s pretty cool! my aunt gave me some rings of hers that she bought in greenwich village in the 60′s during the hippie days……makes it so special.

  6. i love that, i love family jewelry with history. i have this ring from 1944. it was in her hand when this relative died in a car crash, so it kinda means alot to me, i alway wear it. you may see it in pics, it is this big black one, really expensive. and theres writing in it. i so love it and my mom gave it to me :)

  7. This locket is so beautiful. I love antique jewelery too – so much history and they often come with a great story.

And your great great aunt totally had the coolest name ever!

  8. beautiful locket. It’s a gorgeous heirloom.

  9. That’s one of the prettiest things I’ve ever seen, made even better by the fact that it’s actually an heirloom! Magical, almost…

  10. When exactly was Victorian era? It’s beautiful and classy.

  11. You should put something of your own in the locket!

  12. That’s a beautiful locket – I love the monogram, and bonus that it was such a cool name. My Great-Grandmother’s name was Grace Black, which I’ve always loved – it’s my alter ego supervillain/Bond girl name.

I have a beautiful family heirloom cameo which is very old (maybe 200 years?) but I’m too scared to wear it now because my little boy is pretty rough on jewellery.

  13. That is such a sweet piece of history you’ve got there my dear. I’ve noticed you wearing it before, because I love lockets. And cameos, but that is another story.

    Xx

  18. Lulu Belle Porter.

    that name just sounds famous.

Reminds me of, quite frankly, Coco Chanel.

    catch my drift?

  29. that’s gorgeous! and your great great aunt’s name sounds like it could be a character’s name in a francesca lia block book. those were always my fave :)

  30. Thanks for all your sweet comments, everyone! ♥

Laura S. Taylor – It’s bigger than a quarter, the inside compartments are about quarter-sized.
–of course this probably means nothing to anyone who isn’t familiar with American coins.

Laarni – The Victorian era is the mid to late 1800′s. I don’t guess they refer to it much in the Philippines. :)

susie-bubble – I used to have a lock of hair and a photo of my high school sweetheart, but after that was so over, I decided to just to keep it empty.

Skye – Grace Black is a cool name! So is Skye.

  31. I’m always a fan of lockets!

  32. What a gorgeous piece, vintage jewelry is so amazing, and what lovely stories they tell:)
