September is Handbag Month over at Handbag.com, and they've teamed up with Cancer Research UK to raise money for the fight against cancer by asking celebrities to donate handbags from their closets. These bags will be auctioned on eBay during October 3-14 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK, the largest single funder of breast cancer research in the UK.
Maggie Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Mischa Barton, and Scarlett Johansson are just a few of the celebrities who have already donated bags. But this is not just about celebrities, everyone is encouraged to donate a bag in good condition to one of Cancer Research UK's charity shops.

    I think it is wonderful to draw attention to the importance of cancer research through fashion. One of the best aspects about the Handbag Amnesty is that even if you cannot drop by a cancer research shop in the UK, you can still make a difference via ebay. The fact several A-list celebrities are participating, including Maggie Gyllenhaal, Scarlett Johansson, and Ashlee Simpson-Weinz only further helps to promote this cause. I am so excited and in awe something like the Handbag Amnesty has been established. Cancer is very scary and very real, but with the proper research, a difference can be made.
