One of my favorite things to collect are novelty ice cube trays. They are just such, simple, awesome fun, and make great gifts for others on Christmas or birthdays. I have a few different kinds, but my favorite is one that makes gemstone ice cubes--they bring a new meaning to rocks glasses! What beats having diamond-shaped ice clicking around in your cocktail? I also have trays (or ice molds) that make ice shaped like fruit (pineapple, strawberry, cherry, apple, etc!) and skulls. I'd like to have some that make heart-shaped ice as well. Maybe next Valentine's Day? Also on my list are stars and fish (how cute!). If you're really a fan of kawaii, you can also find Hello Kitty ice trays. All of these also work well for making candy and chocolate.
Novelty ice trays are most excellent to have on hand for parties. Make a bunch of ice and store it ahead of time so you'll have plenty. You can even experiment with using juice as colors (and flavoring for your drinks)! So fun! Why have boring ice cubes when you can just as easily have ones that make everyone smile?
