DIY Glitter Nail Polish
A good glitter nail polish is hard to find. Typically, the glitter isn't chunky or satisfying enough. When the glitter is chunky, there's not enough of it so I have to glop something like four coats just to get a measly scattering of glitter pieces per nail. Can you relate? The good news is that glitter nail polish is incredibly easy to make by yourself and customize to your liking. Using this tutorial you can make a glittery nail polish that meets all of your criteria for color, chunkiness, and coverage. Oh yeah, let's do this!
What You'll Need:
- Glitter of your choice
- Clear or translucent nail polish of your choice
- A piece of paper
- Pencil or pen
- Tape
- Shoebox lid or newspaper
The first step is to make a paper funnel. This seems pretty self-explanatory in theory, but I fumbled a little bit with it at first, so please allow me to save you any fumbling. Place a pencil or pen on the paper to secure a hole at the bottom, wrap the paper around and tape the funnel in place. Ta da!
Your tools are ready: clear nail polish, paper funnel, and glitter!
Use an old shoebox lid or newspaper as a tray to catch any spillage.
Place the funnel over the nail polish bottle and pour in a little bit of glitter at a time, tapping the funnel to encourage it into the bottle. Replace the bottle top and shake! You may want to test it out and see if you're thinking, "Needs more glitter!" If so, add more until you're satisfied. That's it!
I'm wearing one coat (yay!) layered over Sally Hansen "Commander In Chic" gray polish.
There you have it... custom DIY Glitter Nail Polish!

Even the paper you are using as a funnel is super rad.
You are impossibly cool.
Love this glitter DIY … is it durable too?

Wow..I was totally going to go out & look for some OPI glitter polish today but I have to say that this DIY version sounds MUCH cooler.
You rock

So simple and I never would have thought of it! This is why you’re the tits, Annie Spandex.
Your nails turned out fabulous!! Love how colorful they are.
P.S. the willoh tees are super cute.

Stylefyles – It’s origami paper.
Durability depends on the polish. I chose Petites which is very durable. However, I will also say that I’ve always found glitter nail polish a pain to remove, so chances are good that most any polish will turn out pretty durable!
Maya – Like you I’ve been wearing it constantly! I didn’t want to remove it for this post, though maybe I should have to just show off the glitter.
FishHawk – Thank you!! x
daisychain – Feeling is mutual :*
ediot – Total slumber party style!! x
Vint Junky – Ohh, don’t mix glitter in with black polish unless it’s quite translucent. Gold glitter with clear polish layered over black polish however, that would be brilliant!! Now I want to make gold glitter polish…
Grant – And I love you!
Erica Lee – I honestly hate OPI. I know people like it but the ones I’ve gotten have all been awful and overpriced. I think I’m missing something. :/
Layla – Hehe
Syd – Thanks for the Wiloh love!!
Christel – Maybe drop in a ball bearing or something small and metal to help shake it up?
EVERYONE – Thanks so much!! Ohh, who tweeted? Twitter doesn’t always show me. Lots of love!! xxoxox
I absolutely adore glitter nalipolish!! I love this DIY! I am going to go read up on more of your DIYs!!
