How To Make A Decoupage Bib Necklace
I had so much fun making my "I'm With The DJ" bib necklace. It was such an easy rainy-day project, I decided to make another one today. This time I made a decoupaged faux jeweled bib necklace. Want to know how I did it?
What you'll need:
- Shoebox or cardboard
- Paper and printer
- Hairspray
- Mod Podge
- Duct tape
- Scissors
- Glitter
- Metallic paint marker
- Hole punch
- Chain necklace
Choose your image, and if it's from the internet or your computer, make sure it fills the width of the paper before printing it out. I chose a Topshop jeweled and beaded bib necklace, but you could use anything. A cosmic nebula, a photo of sequins or gemstones, a portrait of David Bowie, anything. Once it's printed, cut it out.
Spray the paper with hair spray on both the front and back, letting it dry completely on each side. This is to prevent the ink from bleeding. Trace the image onto your cardboard. Cover the reverse side of the cardboard with duct tape. Paint a smooth layer of Mod Podge onto the cardboard within your outline. Place the image on top carefully, smoothing any wrinkles or bubbles. Once dry, cut the bib out.
I cut out the cardboard before gluing, which you can also do, it just won't be as flush. Embellish the edges with a metallic paint marker and allow to dry. Mix some glitter sparingly into Mod Podge and paint a layer over the bib. If you use too much glitter it will block out the image, so be light-handed when mixing. Once everything is dry, use a hole punch on each corner. This step is pretty tough, but if you keep switching the hole punch around and squeezing, it will eventually punch through.
Now you're ready to thread your chain through. On the back of the bib, use another small piece of duct tape to secure the chain in place, otherwise it will show at the the top of the necklace.
That's it! Simple and fun, right? The possibilities are pretty endless with these. I look forward to making another one. They're sturdier than you might expect.
