Why I Love Lita

Jeffrey Campbell Lita in Mustard

Normally when a shoe skyrockets to "IT" status, I tend to turn away for fear of looking like a fashion victim. Not so in this case. You can call me a lemming if you want, but longtime readers know I'm not much of a conformist. I love this shoe, and the fact that everyone else and their mother's-cousin's-sister-with-a-fashion-blog does too is moot. My name is Annie Spandex. The reason I initially chose that name is because I LOVE GLAMROCK. This shoe is completely time-transferred from the golden age of glitter, the mid 1970's. When I look at this shoe, I don't see the hundreds and millions (maybe I'm exaggerating) of fashion bloggers who got their feet in them before me, I see its namesake, Lita Ford and the rest of The Runaways. I see the legendary Stevie Nicks, David Bowie as Halloween Jack, Brian Eno, Slade, Marc Bolan, and scores of 70's teenage glam fans. While the Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" may be a fashion blog phenomenon ("Millions of fashion bloggers can't be wrong!"), I have yet to see them on anyone else in Nashville.

Blonde Redhead Outfit

Speaking of music, my Litas made their debut at a Blonde Redhead concert last week.

  • Benjamin's olive drab shirt
  • Handcrafted pin from museum gift shop
  • Wet Seal gray cigarette jeans
  • UO brassy studs bracelet
  • Bootleg SST Records bag
  • Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" thanks to Eilatan - Sold out, but a new shipment with new colors is coming in about a month. Eilatan is awesome because you get a 15% discount for giving up your return privilege. If you know your size or have tried on the shoes already at a mall or something, you can buy them online at Eilatan with a discount. Shipping is free and they guarantee the lowest price you'll find on any shoe. In addition to Jeffrey Campbell, they also carry 80%20 (my all time favorite shoe brand) and Irregular Choice (another fave). Definitely check them out.

Are they comfortable? - They're not sneakers, but yes they're tolerable, and even more so after the first time wearing them. The platform helps, and while they feel a bit like stilts, they're walkable (though probably not runnable). I love the incredible height I get with these shoes. It's a fun and different perspective to tower over most everyone, including my boyfriend who is taller than me. I've been told twice already by strangers (men) that these are the coolest, best shoes they've ever seen on a girl.

My ugly pin. I love it.

I don't know why little ugly things call out to me, like this hand-beaded pin. They just do.

I have been completely obsessing over Blonde Redhead since the show.
This video is actual footage from that night.

  1. Annie, you look FABULOUS, LOVE LOVE LOVE the army green shirt, the grey skinnies and your LITAs, I’m thinking of getting a pair myself but I’m kinda scared of the height, the roads here in Indonesia are mostly not even and teetering in extreme height is supposed to be a no- no here, but man, you look so good in them, I think I’ll think about them, we’ll see :) )

    Enjoy your day babe

    XOXO

  6. Whenever I see these shoes I think of Vivienne Westwood’s shoes book, even though hers are slightly different the vibe seems the same. Wear ‘em in good health Annie, don’t think I’ve seen this particular color sported anywhere yet. Love your blog!

  15. Oh shit. Now I really really want those shoes.

  16. i do love these boots and the shoes too. and even the band blonde redhead!!

  17. haha! sweet! i have to tell you i felt the same way about everyone loving this shoe….i tend to steer clear of super trends…but i will wear these even when they go out of style….guess that’s the difference. :)

just posted about my new glitter litas. haven’t seen many up yet have you? i love the color you picked, it totally suits you.

    have a great weekend!

  18. Those shoes are indeed gorgeous! I’ve been seeing them on blogs and though I really liked them I was a little unsure since they seem to be *everywhere*. But the more I see them…the more I want them! Haha. And even though in the blogging world they’re pretty popular, I haven’t seen a single person on the street wearing them yet…so I feel like they aren’t as popular as they might seem. Love them with the rolled up jeans too!

  19. omg i totally agree with you on the lita’s. i put off buying them in the first place knowing that they were going to be everywhere but i really thought to myself i love these boots. i loved them the minute i saw them on the anastase runway (they are so me!) and why am i making myself suffer because i’m stubborn and don’t want to conform. so i bought them and i love them. i’m so glad to hear you felt the same! enjoy your weekend gorgeous!

  20. Those boots are fabulous!!

  21. Jemina – They’re so you, though! Are you thinking of getting the Tapestry ones? xo

    Christel – Exactly. :)

Charlotte – Honestly, I was surprised at the male attention. I thought men would–for the most part–think these are ugly. Then a girl told me she’s not surprised her husband loves them because he loves stripper shoes. Haha.. These aren’t stripper shoes, but they have the platform and height of a stripper shoe, so I guess it makes sense.

Stella – I hadn’t seen those yet!! I’d seen the glitter Lita’s. Those are really amazing.. Talk about glitter glam! xxo

    Ana – Interesting. Thanks!!

notsoChiara – I’m clueless about European sizing. Sorry!!

pinkengreen – Thanks! I know.. I’d just hate for someone to think I’m a sheepy follower, you know what I mean?

Fashion Minute – Ooh, it would look great in hair!

fashion therapist – Nah… but thank you! x

    Kenzie Faith – Ugly/Cute forever!!

WendyB – Did my glam rock speech win you over? ;)

PinkBow – I am OBSESSED with Blonde Redhead. Playing them repeatedly.

Cara Mia – Exactly. Checked out the glitter Lita’s and congrats!! Those are legendary!!

Meagan – Yes, exactly! They’re a blogging phenom but you’ll still knock people out in person.

apparellel – Haha, glad to hear you feel the same way too. Your pony hairs are beauts! xox

    E V E R Y O N E – Thanks so much for the sugar!!

  22. Yup, i’m sitting here nodding my head in agreement!
Usually i lose interest in an ‘it’ shoe BUT the lita’s are so damn glam rock, i couldn’t deny them.
Got’s myself the pony hair ;)
    Bolan groupies!!!

  23. Hmm military green and gray. I am trying this look very soon :)

Are they difficult to walk in, the shoes?

  24. annie those shoes are so YOU! i know, i seem to say this about your every outfit but i can’t help it, your clothes really bring out your character – at least, how i imagine your character to be (make sense?)
the great thing about the litas is that there are so many versions out there, i think there could be one to suit every personality, i havent seen two bloggers wearing the same pair! not sure which one i would go for if i had the budget, hmmm… x

  25. LOVE these shoes!!
    Sassy to the max
