They Might Be Layers
I wore this outfit to see They Might Be Giants the other night.
- Gray and black striped sweater - vogel10
- Johnny Martin dress
- Via Christa Chains necklace with antique heirloom locket
- Beige fishnets layered over white tights
- DIY painted 80%20 canvas boots - Click here to see how I made them!
This is actually a sleeveless dress worn layered over a sweater. It looks like a single dress, doesn't it? Their stripes stood out to me in the closet and I thought, "Hmm..."

(Do I look like a Tim Burton movie?) The layered leggings took a little more trial and error. I really love how they turned out with the boots. I want to wear the combination again sometime with a lavender tie-dye dress. Won't that be pretty?

The show was super fun. They Might Be Giants are incredibly entertaining not only with their music but with between-song joking around and a mid-concert puppet show. They played Flood in its entirety... backwards! What more do I have to say? Nashville got lucky. Only a select few of the tour dates are Flood shows. It was so damn stuffy from the sold out show that BB and I quickly split through a fire exit after the encore and went across the street for a beer, then regretted it when we realized no one was spilling out of the venue yet. We missed a double encore! With the cool air on our faces we sat there kicking ourselves and hoped we weren't missing Ana Ng. But that's all right, not even that could take away from our "blue canary" moment.

It really does look like a single dress. Love it!
lovelovelove! a little tim burton-ish, sure, maybe just that the stripes are kinda beetlejuice? but if it is it’s right on trend!
Jessi – Thanks!
hannahlizabeth – Yeah, it does look a little Beetlejuice, huh? But I’m okay with that.
By the way, are you guys noticing the little stowaway in the bottom corner of the top photo?
I love how you created this quirky look, it does really look like one dress. I’ve checked out the shop too, there’s some nice pieces; thanks for sharing!
Love this dress on you Annie, very bettle juice =)
Awesome outfit!
I love those boots *_*

There are so many things I love about this post, I have to make a list:
1. Your cute doggie in the first photo– hi little guy!
2. They Might Be Giants. LOVE them. I’m sure the song was awesome, and the mid-show puppets sound hilarious.
3. You are so damn creative; I love it. The tights look great, as does the dress, and your DIYs are the reason I started reading this blog. I’ve been wanting to try leather painting for awhile… I’m about to attempt the thumb-tack wedges. I’ll let you know how they turn out!
Glad you had fun! You looked GREAT.
Luv ur outfit and the way u styled it!!! Very chic! Xx
1) You look amazing – the tights/boots combo is to die for – well done on that darling!
2) AGES ago you posted about a jewlery company called Warsaw or something similar; do you remember? I wanted to buy one of their pieces but have lost the link. Can you help me out with that?
3) Is that a Wesley Puppy I spy in the bottom left corner (and did I get his name right?)
Xx
Kb – Thanks! I’m glad you checked it out. Her pieces are beautifully made. I’ll be doing a feature soon.
Nubianonsense – Hehe.. thanks!
Marlena – Thanks! xx
Robyn – 1. That’s little Wesley, my dachshund. He likes to make an occasional appearance.
2. It was SUCH a great show! 3. Thank you so much! These boots are canvas–I haven’t painted leather. Good luck! Yes, please show me your thumb tack shoes! I’d LOVE to see them.
jasna – Thanks! xx
Grant – 1. Thanks, babe! 2. http://anniespandex.com/jewelry/warsaw-made/
Which one are you buying? I love all their stuff. 3. Yes!! That’s little Wesley peeking at you! XD xx
If you did not tell us you’re wearing layers I would not have thought you were. That is outfit serendipity. Haha
The striped pieces are a perfect match! And how jealous am I that you got to see TMBG do a puppet show? Well, lots.
I love the stripes and the layered fishnet over tights. I actually thought “Edward Gorey” when I saw this outfit, because of his propensity towards stark black and whites. Great look.
Such a cute dress, and I am always a fan of your tie dyed boots.
Totally thought it was a single dress. Well done DIY.
That dress is absolutely fantastic!
xx

“Do I look like a Tim Burton movie” hahaha, you look way cooler than that…though Burton is pretty hard to beat in the cool stakes, you just did it with those boots…which I heart – a lot!
P.S…I love this band = 0
