Farmer Chic In My Peapod Hat

Switching gears completely, how about a little farmer chic?

  • My "peapod" hat, a sun hat I bought from the street market in Nassau, Bahamas
  • F21 henley tunic
  • My "little wooden man" necklace, a gift
  • Faux patchwork leggings! - eBay
  • Engineer boots from Sundance catalog

I call this my "Peapod Hat" because of some obscure childhood memory involving a children's book. I searched online but can't find it. It was a pop-up book that came with little dolls. It's just a sun hat I bought in the Bahamas a few years ago.

No one knows if my little wooden man is carrying a vase of flowers or golf clubs. ;)

That's me with my hat back in 2006, anticipating a wave on Rose Island, Bahamas. Now you know how I keep my skin so pale. Haha.. A sun hat and linen shirt are absolutely necessary for a day on the beach! Obviously for me, at least. The sad thing is I'm actually tanned in this photo. Yep. That's seriously as tan as I can possibly get, with trying. It's taken me a while to embrace that fact, but I'm OK with it now. :)

    I’m very pale too but with a slight yellowy tinge. I feel like a Simpsons character sometimes but then I think, what’s better having a natural skin colour or one that comes out of a can?

    Danielle – I’ll never forget an interview I read with Jenni Garth back when she was on the original 90210–it was in Teen Magazine or maybe YM. Ha.. The interviewer described Jenni’s pale skin to being like the inside of a banana. Does that sound like you? Both my mom and sister are naturally tan so it took me a while to accept being so pale.

    As for not being tan- hey, no skin cancer! And I quite like light skin. :) I’m naturally pretty pale, but I tan in about 10 minutes, which is an odd mix, especially on my body when I have tan lines.
