Diane Von Furstenberg

Diane Von FurstenbergDiane Von Furstenberg is a personal inspiration to me and many others. I saw a biography about her when I was a young girl that made a lasting impression on me, and her more recent American Express commercial struck a major chord. In it, she says:

  • "I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I knew the woman I wanted to become. Fashion was absolutely an accident in my life. As a result of that, I was becoming independent, and I was becoming more and more the woman that I wanted to be. If I have any role in what I do in fashion, it’s to make women feel more confident. To be confident, makes you beautiful, makes you happy, makes you fulfilled."

  • As a twenty-something fresh out of round two of grad school with second thoughts about the career I'd chosen, I found her statement to be very encouraging and inspirational. At the time, I didn't know what I wanted to do either, but I knew the woman I wanted to become.
Diane Von Furstenberg's wrap dresses were introduced in the 70s and catapulted her to iconic status with their bold prints and extremely wearable, flattering design. These dresses are perfect for the workplace and for getting a cocktail afterward. She is still designing fashionable, flattering shapes for women. Check out the following listings on eBay for a good deal on one of her designs, and perhaps a great vintage score:
