Balmain is a French fashion line with origins in the mid-20th Century. Christophe Decarnin took over as designer in 2005 and gradually brought the label back to life, making it very popular among actresses and bloggers. Notably, Decarnin's chained, studded, bedazzled heels became the "it" shoe of 2008, and inspired many knock-off versions. In 2009, Balmain is pretty much solely responsible to setting off the strong shouldered and military trends. The shoulders are a re-wash of 80's and 40's shoulderpad fashion with a futuristic, fierce edge. The positive changes to the line favoring a young, chic, tough, sexy, edgy girls, do not come cheap.
