Help For Problem Skin: Make Red Marks And Hyperpigmentation Fade Away

With acne-prone skin, pimples are often half the problem. Past blemishes can leave red marks and scars, which is frustrating when you have an otherwise clear face. These products can help fade red marks and heal your skin, so you can have a fresh start. These are my products that I have used and can recommend to you.
.

MaMa Lotion

MaMa Lotion is named for its ingredients of malic and mandelic acids. It's great for smoothing skin texture and controlling blackheads, as well as healing hyperpigmentation and scarring. It works by speeding up the process of skin-renewal. Don't take my word for it, read the glowing reviews on acne.org here. I recommend using it every other day for the first few weeks and then as needed. It retails for about $45, but you can check the auctions below for a better deal.

Kerstin Florian's Intensive Glycolic Renewal 15

I have used this after particularly bad breakouts (gee thanks, Aunt Flo!) and seen an impressive reduction of red marks overnight. Like MaMa Lotion, it works by speeding up skin-renewal and revealing newer skin. It's more harsh though, so I don't recommend using it more than once or maybe twice a week. At about $70, it's fairly expensive, but worth it. Sometimes a better deal can be found on eBay.

.
Don't have the budget for MaMa Lotion or Kerstin Florian? Save up and keep an eye on those auction listings by bookmarking this page, or spend $6 on a tube of Salicylic Acid.
I recommend Clean & Clear's Advantage Acne Spot Treatment.

This reduces redness and shrinks active blemishes overnight. It's gentle enough for everyday use.
.
As these products can be harsh and drying, you might want to follow up with moisturizer. I use Sonya Dakar's Hydrasoft Lotion for Irritation.

This is so good. Smells nice, like bergamot. It's soothing, smooth, and absorbs quickly, doesn't feel greasy at all. Doesn't clog pores at all (and I have a problem with moisturizers clogging pores, so I can vouch). It's downright perfect. Dakar makes a whole line of products that are formulated for problem skin. Check the auctions for more.

.
Tip: Help prevent red marks by putting Neosporin or any other antibiotic ointment on a healing blemish at night time, and be sure to take your vitamins.
The obvious advice is... don't pick! If you have a magnifying mirror, throw it out!
Those things are evil. ;)

Do you have a favorite product for healing problem skin?

  1. Nice recommendations. I’ll dig this.

My sister and I use PanOxyl Acne gel but it should be applied very thinly or else: burnt.

    :D

  2. Laarni – Sometimes I think it’s like exercise, you have to feel the burn to know it’s working. :/ Sounds harsh, but true!

  3. ooOOOoooOOO I want that MaMa lotion! I have a blackhead problem

  4. I use Benefit’s Boo Boo Zap from breakouts. Works wonders on me.

  5. I have a glycolic acid mask. It says to use it twice a week, but I use it once a month because it STINGS!!!
I have a blackhead/open pore problem so I am obsessed with skin care products, but the best I’ve found is simple mud/clay masks and microdermabrasion (at home style coz I’m cheap) once a week, glycolic acid mask once a month and regular clean tone moisturize and my new wonder product Clinique pore minimizer. If I’d had this in highschool my life would have been so much better!!!

I hate being pregnant. I’m so spotty, it’s horrendous.

  6. Laura S. Taylor – You use the Mint Julep mask, right? It helps get rid of blackheads too.

Marisol – Cool! Thanks for sharing. :)

Song – That sounds like a good routine. And I would love to go back in time and share the skin secrets I’ve learned with my high school self. Hoo boy…

  7. mint julep mask? elaborate!

  8. Laura – Here’s a link. :)

  14. How about another blog like this? I thought it was well done. I dabbled in technical writing back in school, and this has the few most important factors of a good article, informative and fun to read. Cheers.
