What I wouldn't give for a Nudie jacket. It would be a dream to have a custom-made one, like Gram's. Gram chose to place marijuana leaves and opium poppies on the front, pills and acid sugar cubes on the sleeves, naked busty women on the lapels, and (my favorite detail) the prison tattoo-esque cross featured on the back. The flames of hell creep up his legs. Everything is embroidered and surrounded by sequins. Glorious! Sadly, this suit (rather intentionally) foreshadows his young death by overdose. But back to the glory... I think if I were to have a Nudie jacket made, it would feature blue roses on the front, purple seven-pointed stars with lots of glitz on the sleeves, two large safety pins on the lapels (embroidered and sequined of course, not real safety pins), and a great big delicious strawberry pink ice cream cone on the back. Glamour!

this is too funny! One of my girlfriends is obsessed with him, and she’s actually working on making her own nudie suit to be him for halloween.
My cat Spike on the back, chocolate, Laduree macaroons and cupcakes on the sleeves and the Eley Kishimoto ‘Flash’ print embroidered up the legs.

God, I love Gram Parson, love the Nudie suit. There was a Nudie suit type jacket on the runway a few seasons ago. The resulting for sale jacket was a mere $500 or so (I saw it on Polyvore) but sold out faster than quaaludes on the back of GP’s tour bus. Sigh. Thanks for this post.

Tom of Finland sailors on the front
Cutsey cherries up the sleeves
A quill and a riding crop on the lapels (Ink & Leather)
and…
A fancy looking china cup of tea spilling over on the back.

Grant – That sounds boss as hell!!! And you know, Gram Parsons, he was in the Byrds. He’s the grievous angel. He bridged country with rock in the early 70′s. Taught the Rolling Stones about country music–back when country music was made of legends.
